Monday morning: what needs me today

Ellen starts the week. Something is overdue, something is short and something is over budget, but no screen says what matters first.

You are

Ellen Brooks, Controller at Aurora Components.

The situation

Ellen starts the week. Something is overdue, something is short and something is over budget, but no screen says what matters first.

Dynocortex gathers what needs attention onto one screen, and says who owns each.

Step by step

Each step as it looks in the demo installation, on Aurora Components (Demo).

  1. Open Dynocortex → Home. Under Needs you, read the cards: an overdue invoice, a top seller below its reorder level, a budget over, and last week's margin.

Monday morning: what needs me today, step 1: Open Dynocortex → Home. Under Needs you, read the cards: an overdue invoice, a top seller below its reorder level, a budget over, and last week's margin.
  2. Open Dynocortex → Chats and ask

"Which of these should I deal with first, and who on the team owns each one?"

Monday morning: what needs me today, step 2: Open Dynocortex → Chats and ask:
  3. Open the overdue invoice the first card is about: Accounting → Accounts Receivable, then click Metro Transit Works' oldest invoice. In the demo, Home's cards offer Discuss only, so the document opens from its own screen. In the Ask panel beside it, ask

    "What's the history here?"

Monday morning: what needs me today, step 3: Open the overdue invoice the first card is about: Accounting → Accounts Receivable, then click Metro Transit Works' oldest invoice. In the demo, Home's cards offer Discuss only, so the document opens from its own screen. In the Ask panel beside it, ask:
  4. Ask in the chat

"What's our cash position this month, and what's due in?"

Monday morning: what needs me today, step 4: Ask in the chat:

What a good answer contains

  • The four cards ranked by money at risk and how urgent they are, with a reason for each.
  • An owner for each, from Aurora's team: the overdue invoice to Ellen; the reorder to Nina (the buyer), approved by Morgan above her limit; the budget to Ellen; the margin to Rachel.
  • Cash this month and what's due in, from the receivables and payables.
  • In the demo the cards are to look at: you can discuss and open them, not act on them.

What the full product does beyond the demo

Each card goes to its owner's Home, who approves, snoozes or hands it on; the owner's morning brief carries the same numbers before the day starts.

Answers are worded afresh each time, so yours will read differently. The demo company is made up, and its data goes back to the start every night.
